Comments:

Living in New York has been an adventure.

I worked in the computer field for the first half of my life in the big apple

In 1986 I started Printed Methods.

"We design and print for clients", is the tag line that has defined the company.

For fun I shared summer houses on Fire Island and skied out of winter houses in Vermont and upstate NY.

Lately my life is filled traveling with my best friend Sandy. She has a home on the Atlantic at Long Beach, NY. The clouds picture (below) was taken from her patio.

School Story:

Looking at the '61 Spur, I see my bout with the Rio Grande as a common thread in many of your comments.

It was a new world when I landed in El Paso and got to see and live in the "Westest town in Texas".

They were great days and El Paso was a great place to be a kid.

More of my story

I was born with a silver spoon in my month. It's fallen out several times.

For the moment I'll concentrate on the El Paso days with a smattering of attributes ; El Paso was mostly high school days and the high school was El Paso High.

I got there in my sophomore year having been a freshman at Andrew Jackson High in New York, a block away from my home on Francis Lewis Blvd. in Queens.

I tried out for football but soon found that Texas football was serious and I wasn't.

ROTC wasn't much to my calling either but I did get to be the company flag carrier, whatever that's called.

Working on The Tattler gave me the pratice of "going out for a story". I don't remember ever getting a "scoop", but I did get my photo into the Popular "Senior of the week" and then forgot to change it out.

The El Paso days were growing days and B'nai Brith's AZA was an important part of who I became.

I graduated EPHS and went on to Texas Western for a year, one year was enough so off I went to "TEXAS" in Austin. One year there was enough and I went down to Houston to The U of H, here I becameTreasurer of the Student Body and graduated with a BBA in accounting.

And that's were I'll stop the synopsis, except for these teasers.

First book of my Poetry was: "My Life is the Game".
Favorite Movie: Casablanca, followed by Appollo 13.
Favorite author: J.Albert Mitchner.
Joys in my latter days (partial list), Sunrise out of the Ocean, and Sandy, the girlfriend.

Here are three poems to whet your appetite.

Friends

It pleases me, me to see
the people i make friends with,
make friends with,
the people i make friends with.

WRITTEN WHILE RUNNING

i HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE TIRED
i HAVE THE RIGHT TO DIE
i HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE WRONG
i HAVE THE RIGHT TO CRY
&
i HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE HAPPY
i HAVE THE RIGHT TO FLY
i HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE DIFFERENT
I DON'T HAVE TO KNOW WHY

Once when i was all alone

Once when i was all alone
and things were going well

i thought about a girl i knew
and wondered how to tell

Tell her of the things i've seen
and things i wished i knew

Tell her of my joys in life
and hoped she'd found some too.

ZEBRA BEACH
by Alan N. (Kip) Kipnis

Sandy Beach
Seajay Beach
Atlantic Beach
You’re going to give it a name.
Mystical Beach
Mythical Beach
“My favorite Beach”
The patterns of nature tamed.
We look at each easy simple reach,
Can these be both the same?
Time will teach
and we'll savor this beach
when it's out of reach
on a day full of rain.
The planks they stand
Straight and tall
Delaying their fall
cemented in the sand.
For nature’s way
Creates the play
Now diamonds are at hand.
A jump shift in bridge,
Will confuse the abused.
Now allow us to muse
at this ruse
by the use
of refrain.

Colbert N. Coldwell (left) and Colbert Coldwell Shapleigh at the funeral of Colbert Coldwell on May 19, 2010. At one time there were six men living contemporaneously named Colbert Coldwell: the Colbert who just died, Colbert Coldwell who lived on Hague Street, Colbert Coldwell of San Francisco who founded Coldwell Banker Real Estate, Colbert Coldwell McClain, a Philadelphia lawyer, and these two distinguished individuals.
